Herdabout
Shelties would like to introduce our latest hopeful " WAPITI
"
Apple Acres True Colors Of Herdabout
Am Ch
Apple Acres Greatest Hits X Apple Acres Practically Purple
The name
"Wapiti" comes from the Sioux name for elk -- referring to the
white rump on the deer. This puppy (as well as his mother) has a
distinct white spot on the top of their rump. But the real purpose
of us giving this name to this puppy is that "Wapiti" was a famous Appaloosa stallion who was a result of breeding two
solid colour Quarter Horses together. This horse "Wapiti"
had the distinct Appaloosa markings of a white blanket across his
rump with large peacock spots, and he created quite a controversy in the
world of
horse breeders as to whether the colour was recessive, or if the
horse was a genetic freak of colour inheritance.
At
Herdabout Shelties we believe that all genetic colours in
shelties should be allowed in the conformation ring ... if it is in
the genes, why can't we show it in the ring? We formed a support
and awareness group called SIT (Shelties In True Colours)
to help bring awareness to the issue and we have two
videos and a
Facebook page to help spread
the word.
The reason
for purchasing this beautiful puppy and adding him to our breeding
program is to bring the "Purple" colour back into our dogs. We are
trying to breed shelties that can perform in all venues, winning in
both the conformation ring and the agility ring. Banchory
Shelties were known for their versatility and resilient attitude
(something we want even more of in our dogs), and the purple colour comes down
from the great foundation dog Am Can CH Banchory Deep Purple ROM
ROMC.
